Consultation and Professional Development
The professionals at ACES work directly with teachers, special education directors, administrators, and parents to help with behavioral assessment and program development to support students in the least restrictive environment. Services are delivered in a variety of formats, including working with teachers to assist with specific students and curriculum needs, or conducting professional development workshops on a variety of topics relating to behavioral and instructional approaches.
ACES's behavioral consultation services address targeted behavioral and instructional needs affecting a student's performance at school. The professionals at ACES work with the students and their support teams and assist them in procuring additional resources if needed.
All services are framed by the ABA model (Applied Behavioral Analysis). The Director of ACES is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in accordance with the standards of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). All ACES staff receive supervision from a BCBA.
Home Training
The professionals at ACES visit homes to help parents and students with concerns specific to the home environment. Home visits are regularly scheduled and address concerns such as functional communication, behavior, self help, and community skills. An ACES home trainer also observes the student in the classroom and collaborates with the teachers on the skills and needs of that student. The home trainer then adapts effective strategies used in the classroom setting to the home environment so they can better support skills that help families promote functional and life-long skills for their children.
Home training is generally a service provided as part of the student's individualized education plan.
Vision and Mobility Services
The professionals at ACES are experts in the areas of vision and mobility. They teach Braille, vision compensatory skills and assistive technology to student with vision impairments. They teach students with mobility challenges how to travel safely and independently in their environment.
ACES works directly with students and also provides consultation to teachers. ACES helps teachers make the school's curriculum more accessible to vision impaired and mobility challenged students. The staff also assists each student to transfer learned skills from the classroom to the community.
Satellite Programs
ACES helps establish programs in public school settings by providing program direction and staff training, allowing the school district to build from that base and expand their in-district services.
